CERTINA

Certina S.A., a distinguished Swiss watch brand, traces its roots back to 1888 in Grenchen. Founded by visionary brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth, they established a pioneering movement and supplies factory that catered to the watchmaking industry in Switzerland. In 1906, a remarkable milestone was achieved as Certina began producing complete watches, introducing the brand name "Grana" to the world.

The brand's commitment to excellence was recognized in 1924 when Certina became officially registered at the Federal Office of Intellectual Property on 15 February. As time progressed, Certina continued to flourish, creating an extensive range of exceptional timepieces under its esteemed name.

Today, Certina stands proudly as a cherished member of the prestigious Swatch Group, epitomizing the embodiment of Swiss watchmaking heritage and innovation.

Wristwatch

Immaculate vintage Certina wristwatch from the 1950s.

Presenting an exquisite vintage Certina wristwatch that embodies the timeless elegance of the 1950s era. This manual wind timepiece boasts an original Certina movement caliber K.F.320 (Kurth Freres) with 15 jewels, sub-second hand, 42-hour power reserve, and operates at 18,000 A/h—meticulously serviced in June 2023 for optimal performance.

"Frères" is the French word for "brothers." – In the context of Certina watches, "Kurth Frères" (translates to "Kurth Brothers" in English) often refers to the movements or calibers developed by the Kurth brothers that were used in Certina timepieces. It signifies the involvement and contribution of the Kurth brothers in the watchmaking process and highlights their role in the development and production of Certina watches.

This watch retains its original gold dial, gracefully displaying signs of age and patina, while showcasing hour markers, a prominent minute/second track, and complementary gold matching hands. Positioned at 6 o'clock, the sub-second dial adds a touch of sophistication. The Certina name/logo is elegantly inscribed on the dial, representing its authentic heritage.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust the lighting, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
